Publications such as TIME magazine have called Millennials, those born since 1980, “lazy, entitled, and narcissists who still live with their parents.” So why try to engage this entitled group with something as noble as giving back to the community? In short, you should be thinking about how to engage this group because they are the next generation of leaders, donors, and supporters who have proven themselves as an extremely generous generation.
According to the 2014 Millennial Impact Report (Case Foundation), 84% of Millennial employees made a charitable donation and 70% of Millennials spent at least an hour volunteering in 2014. If you are not actively engaging this younger audience, it’s clear that you are missing a large, enthusiastic, and talented base of potential supporters.
Join us for the next AFP program to gain insight into the thinking patterns of Millennials. Learn about their motivations, interests, and how they want to impact the world and their local community. Executive Directors, Development staff, and Board members can pick up key strategies to communicate your mission to this group of emerging donors.
Vinney Arora works actively with nonprofits, foundations, and associations to help them realize their growth opportunities by increasing efficiency, visibility, and supporter engagement. In 2014 Vinney co-founded PartyChild.org, a grass roots organization that hosts birthday parties for homeless and low-income children in Silicon Valley. Last year Vinney was awarded the “Young Innovator” award from Thrive, The Alliance of Nonprofits for San Mateo County. Prior to joining LiveImpact, Vinney was the Director of Donor Relations at StarVista. Vinney speaks nationally to nonprofits about online giving, millennial engagement, and Board relations.
